EASY & fab This past February, when we were dreaming up this issue, our editors and designers talked about the many things we love about Thanksgiving: How holiday dishes taste so much better together, as part of a big meal. How the aromas of turkey and pie trigger all the good vibes. And how excited we still are—even after pandemic and economic disruptions changed how we cook (more simply, more rebelliously, more frequently, and often much smarter)—to pull together memorable feasts with family and friends. HOW IT STARTED 1997 Five University of Washington grad students launch a recipe-sharing community and baking site. Cookierecipe.com and spin-off sites (for cakes, pies, and other recipe types) are later combined into one megasite: Allrecipes.com 2000 Allrecipes becomes the first food brand to introduce member-submitted recipes with reviews and ratings and a digital recipe box. 2008 Allrecipes launches a mobile app for easy recipe searching from your mobile device, wherever you are. The same year, the brand launches the first of 18 international sites. You’ve likely heard that the tryptophan in your holiday turkey is responsible for that post-Thanksgiving dinner snooze. It’s (mostly) true: When you eat foods with tryptophan, an amino acid, it travels through your blood and into your brain, where it turns into serotonin, a neurotransmitter that produces a calming effect.
