Simple strategies can make a difference. I’ve been a quilter for 32 years and part of the editorial team of American Patchwork & Quilting® magazine since 2007. I am exposed to new products, fabrics, tools, gadgets, and sewing machines every week. As part of the “research” I do for my job, I purchase a lot of these items. But if I’m honest with myself, I bought them because I wanted them, not because I needed them. The topic of how much stuff we have as quilters came up on the American Patchwork & Quilting podcast, episode 524, when art director Elizabeth Stumbo and designer Carole Lyles Shaw (carolelylesshaw.com) talked about using a fabric stash in a thoughtful and sustainable way.
