When I started quilting, now more than 30 years ago, I purchased what was available at my local variety store: small calicoes in primary colors and muslin, which I used as the background. After a while I transitioned to a palette of mauve and dusty blue, popular home decor colors at the time. Today my fabric tastes are eclectic. I like 19th-century reproduction prints, buy yards of bold and bright prints from the Kaffe Fassett Collective, and have quite a collection of jewel-tone hand-dyed Cherrywood. I’m always on the lookout for paisleys, large-scale chintzes, and beautiful lifelike florals. Actually, there aren’t many types of fabrics or colors that I don’t like in my quilts.
