In Iowa, where I live, there are four distinct seasons, and I think my favorite is autumn. The leaves have changed from myriad shades of green to mustard gold, rusty orange, and crimson red. Pumpkin patches and apple orchards are filled with families enjoying hayrides and farm-fresh produce. The air is crisp and cool. And while I decorate my home with quilts year-round, changing them out for the season, I particularly enjoy displaying fall- and Halloween-inspired throws, wall quilts, and table toppers. Why didn’t I think of that?

To corral rulers, I use flower boxes. A 30"-long box works great for rectangular rulers, and a 24"-long box easily holds square or odd-shape rulers. This way I can see my rulers at a glance without them tumbling down. LOUISE LANDRY MEASE Lewiston, Maine My quilting magazines are well-loved and they look it. So I don’t damage them by frequently paging through them, I put sticky notes with brief notes on each cover. Q: I’m not confident in my ability to choose colors and fabrics that look good together. Any advice? CAROLYN GIBBONS Fort Myers, Florida 1 SELECT A MULTICOLOR PRINT FABRIC. When a multicolor print is produced, the designer does the work of creating a color palette for you! Even if you don’t plan to use the multicolor print in your project, you can pull a palette of your own based on its colors. 2 START WITH A PHOTO YOU LOVE.
