good to have you back, ruth!

Our lovely columnist, Ruth, returned to TV last week, following the sudden death of her sister, Julia. She did a grand job, and we’re sure she and hubby Eamonn will continue to do so for the next seven weeks on the This Morning sofa. We can’t wait! That’s a whole summer of our favourite stars. There really isn’t a better TV couple for bouncing off each other, sharing jokes and exasperations – as only a husband and wife can. ‘My partner is back in business,’ Eamonn said. We agree. To quote a viewer, ‘Sooo pleased to see @RuthieeL back.’ Turn to page 76 to read about Eamonn’s holiday plans and what people’s condolence messages have meant to Ruth. Please let me know your thoughts, siobhan.wykes@hearst.co.uk…

start your week with a smile

1 SUMMER LOVIN’ How adorable is this picture of Danish ex-supermodel Helena Christensen, 50, and her beautiful miniature Australian shepherd dog, Kuma? She posted the picture on Instagram with the caption, ‘We swim in harbors.’ Kuma seems super excited to be spending time with his owner, who is now a photographer. Seems like a pretty good way to spend the summer if you ask us! 2 Who wowed the crowd? When it comes to celebrity summer style, it seems that black is the new white. At The Lion King premiere, The Duchess of Sussex, 37, glowed in a fit-and-flare dress with sheer panels, while Alexandra Burke, 30, contrasted a deepV-neck with long sleeves. Meanwhile, over in America, Cat Deeley, 42, kept things simple in a classic slip. 3 PITT OF A CLOWN! Brad Pitt’s upcoming…

sheridan shocks again…

Love or loathe Sheridan Smith, as the Narrator in the new stage version of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, she swiftly became the talk of the show. While she herself insisted she was ‘having the time of her life’ and some dubbed the Lincolnshire-born lass’s turn at the London Palladium ‘superb’ and ‘utterly brilliant’, others weren’t so sure. ‘Sheridan Smith… where to begin?’ remarked one. ‘Drunk or stoned? Or both?! She got A LOT of lyrics wrong… laughing inappropriately, dancing EXTREMELY inappropriately for a [largely] young audience… so unprofessional.’ Another wrote, ‘Ugh… no, she was awful! Worst narrator I’ve seen. It’s not supposed to be about her – might as well have called it “Sheridan Smith sings the songs of Joseph”.’ It was also reported that in rehearsals, the 38-year-old – who recently…

‘i wrote to the bbc for a job when i was 12!’

She’s been forecasting the weather for more than 20 years now, and BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood, 57, also tripped the light fantastic in the 2015 series of Strictly, where she was partnered with Pasha Kovalev (they made it to the seventh week). Born in Morar, Inverness-shire, she now lives in Berkshire. Was it always your dream to do the weather? No! When I was 12, I wanted to be a Blue Peter presenter, so I wrote to the editor who, in those days, was Biddy Baxter. I was told to get a degree and get back to them, which, years later, I did. I joined the BBC’s secretarial reserve, like an in-house temping agency, but I was very shy back then. I became a production assistant, worked in radio and started…

3 quickfire questions

CITY OR COUNTRY? When I was much younger, I lived in London, but I like living in the countryside now – in a small house with a garden in Berkshire – with my cat, Donald. It’s my oasis. FAVOURITE SOAP? Coronation Street. I was watching the show one night – they were talking about who they’d invite to their ideal dinner party, and they said me! HOW DO YOU RELAX? With good TV, a bottle of wine or seeing friends for lunch or coffee. A lot of my friends are mums, or mums with grown-up children so, despite my hours, it’s not hard to plan catch-ups, as we can meet during the day.
