editor’s letter

It’s been an action-packed month in our office. Aside from our day jobs (of putting out this magazine and fuelling our digital platforms), we also hosted a series of uplifting events that brought to life the core mission at the heart of marie claire: to honour the fearless, fabulous females who are shaping our world. At sold-out events celebrating International Women’s Day, an extraordinary line-up of game-changers made us laugh, cry and gasp as they shared inspiring stories from their lives. And while it’s impossible to capture the moving mood, I thought I’d relay some pearls of wisdom from these truly awesome women. Fashion designer Camilla Franks, who made her welcome return to the spotlight after battling breast cancer, told us the past year has taught her the power of resilience and…

natalie portman

Actress, mother, model, muse. Both on and off the screen, Natalie Portman has a history of exquisite fashion moments: dark and twisted tulle in Black Swan; refined glamour on the red carpet; and romantic femininity as the face of Miss Dior fragrance. Within our photo shoot in Los Angeles, those three tenets of style came together as Portman took the spotlight in ethereal ivory lace, balletic basics and sublime nude separates. The beauty look was soft and glowy, in line with the actress’ low-key yet considered regimen. “Make-up can definitely give you more self-confidence if you need it, as it lets you reveal who you are, but also protects you, by giving you a mask,” she ponders. “Dior is perfect that way: it symbolises strength of character as much as a bold…

1 DO THE SHIMMY Bigger and blingier than ever, a pair of pendulum earrings steps up even the most minimal all-black ensemble. 2 CREATIVE VISION It’s the eternal question: is fashion art? Based on these splashy graphic motifs from Louis Vuitton, we’ll take the affirmative position. 3 SPOT ON From childhood favourite to fashion perennial, polka dots add a touch of whimsy to every imaginable silhouette. 4 MATERIAL GIRLS Kate Spade’s new creative director Nicola Glass stays true to the brand’s youthful spirit with an exquisite array of frocks in fresh and flowy fabrics. 5 NEW ROMANTIC Amp up the volume in a poet blouse – this season’s throwback hero – defined by billowy peasant sleeves. PHOTOGRAPHY BY KAT IRLIN; PAMELA COOK/STUDIO D; MICHAEL NAUMOFF. STYLED BY JULIA GALL; CHLOE BUTTENSHAW. HAIR BY CLAUDIO BELIZARIO FOR ALTERNA HAIRCARE AND ORIBE.…

CARRY ON Supersized in sun-kissed hues, Louis Vuitton’s Onthego tote will indulge your passion for overpacking. FACE VALUE With a white opal dial marked by 12 rubies and a sprinkling of snow pavé diamonds, Omega’s Constellation Manhattan watch brings a healthy dose of hedonism to horology. NINETIES REVIVAL Designed to be carried under the arm (like the French breadstick of its namesake), the Fendi Baguette is back – and set to seduce a whole new generation. NATURAL BEAUTY The new Pandora Garden collection sees butterflies, ladybirds and clovers converge on dainty rings, charms and necklaces. We’re calling them perennial additions to your jewellery box. CHILD STARS Luxury e-tailer Net-a-Porter launches Kids Casuals, a curation of cool streetwear styles for girls and boys under 12. The question: does this cashmere tracksuit from Chinti and Parker Kids (below) come in our…

20 years of iconic style

Actress Nathalie Kelley is fastening a gleaming gold pendant around her neck. “The first time I wore Bulgari jewellery my life changed,” she professes, her eyes wide as she describes the sparkling Serpenti watch that’s coiled seductively around her wrist. “There was a distinct before and after.” On this crisp night in Rome, her jewels are more pared back, but no less striking. A pair of spherical necklaces skim her décolletage, and her fingers are stacked with mixed metallic rings. Each piece is part of Bulgari’s iconic B.zero1 collection, which is feting its 20th anniversary with a star-studded soiree. Kelley steps onto the red carpet in figure-hugging black lace (a gothic Jonathan Simkhai number) and breezes into the crowd, a global melting pot of models, musicians and cool kids. There’s brand ambassador…
