12 towers 2018

Michael Booth and Yuka Sato picked up a bag full of pre-season Paddle League points on the Gold Coast this weekend, with the Starboard duo overcoming a hot field and even hotter conditions to salute at the 7th Annual 12 Towers Ocean Race. Boothy overpowered world number two Titouan Puyo (NSP/QB) and fast-finishing Lincoln dews (DEEP/QB), while Yuka stunned the strong Aussie women led by dark horse Kate Baker (ONE) and international star Terrene Black (ECS/QB). With dead calm winds greeting the 236 paddlers early Saturday morning, race organisers had to switch to plan B and reverse the course. The northerly “devil’s wind” picked up just enough during the race to make drafting difficult but still not produce the Gold Coast’s signature downwind bumps. In other words: it was a grind.…

10ft longboard sup revolution

“Riding a big board you expect nothing but you appreciate everything” WHAT PUTS A SMILE ON YOUR FACE..? A baby tasting food for the first time, funny cat videos on Facebook or maybe just listening to a mates joke. For me and a lot of other people around the world it’s jumping on a 10ft SUP. All the simple little things feel amazing and that’s why a smile appears. Anyone who feels the same knows whether it’s standing a foot from the nose screaming to your mates “you got an epic hang ten”, sharing a bomb set with your mate and swearing he said he was going left or just nailing a big hack on your new 10ft longboard it has a way of putting a big grin on your dial. It doesn’t…

paddle for ocean heroes

Ocean Heroes is a Perth based charity that aims to enhance the lives of those living with Autism through surfing. They believe every child with Autism should have the opportunity to go surfing in a safe, caring, understanding and fun environment. Over the last 2 years they have managed to get over 800 kids out in the ocean and riding the waves. The demand and excitement for these days is at such a level that they generally book all 150 spots out in under an hour each month. It is with this demand that Director of the Foundation Luke Hallam came up with the idea of paddling from Dunsborough to Perth to raise money for the organization to be able to purchase equipment to run events more regularly. Luke recruited close friend, and the…

tasmania

Initial perfect conditions met a field of 15 for the annual Carlton River paddle. Welcome additions to this year’s race included a short course and a strong contingent from beyond the Cascade line (also known as NW Coast). Timed to make the most of the tidal change from incoming to outgoing, which never eventuated, competitors set out in sunny conditions with each finding their own challenge throughout the race. Whether it was Luke taunting Ben the entire race, only to get serious in the last 3km and leave him speechless (and breathless) or Matt Steele doing his best Solo man impersonation after arriving late, everyone found a way to push themselves and final times indicated a vast improvement in SUP talent in Tasmania. Congratulations to all competitors and wonderful to see new faces and…
