THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 THANKSGIVING Wow your crowd! These turkey cupcakes are surprisingly easy to decorate, say the pros in the Woman’s World test kitchen. To do: Tint vanilla frosting with red, orange and yellow food coloring; transfer to separate pastry bags fitted with a petal tip like Wilton #104. Start by piping red feathers along the edge of a chocolate cupcake in a rainbow shape. Repeat with orange and yellow frostings as shown. Stir a bit of cocoa powder into vanilla frosting and transfer to a pastry bag fitted with a ⅜" round, plain tip to pipe the turkey’s body and head. Place candy eyeballs on the turkey’s face. Pipe wattle, beak and feet with red and orange frosting. Refrigerate to set, about 1 hour. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27 TIE ONE ON DAY Spread love! Tying…

spreading hope—one cupcake at a time!

Unwrapping a present from beneath the Christmas tree, 11-year-old Michael Platt’s face lit up with joy. “TOMS shoes!” he cried. “Thank you, Mom!” But as he opened the box to try on his new shoes, a card fluttered to the floor. “What’s this?” Michael asked curiously, picking it up to read an overview of the TOMS business model. “Cool—they give one pair of shoes to someone in need for every pair of shoes they sell!” Michael exclaimed, ecstatic that his Christmas present would actually help someone too. Michael had always been mindful of the need around him, having grown up learning about the inspiring legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. from his deeply passionate mother and grandparents. In fact, Michael had a passion of his own: baking. Maybe I can find a way…

3 ways to be a kindness cultivator!

1 Turn your busy into moments of caring! “On Black Friday, I do what I call ‘RAK’ Friday, where I show random acts of kindness while shopping—like handing out coupons or gift cards,” shares Tamara Letter, author of A Passion for Kindness. “It helps me brighten people’s day, even in the midst of all the bustle!” 2 Change your focus “When I focus on joy, I realize I find more joy!” says Letter. “So an easy way to cut through life’s noise and be kinder to ourselves and others is to simply choose a positive ‘focus word’ to say when things get hectic—like patient, loved or brave.” You’ll instantly start feeling, seeing and sharing what you focus on! 3 Make a schedule Empathy and caring are like muscles, explains Letter—the more you use them the…
