THE Cape Winelands has been cited as the Western Cape municipality with the greatest growth potential because of declining trends observed in the Garden Route, particularly in Bitou and Knysna municipalities. This was according to Dylan Johnstone from the Intelligence Management and Research Unit at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning. Johnstone presented research on the Growth Potential Study (GPS) for the various Western Cape municipalities for 2018 at a standing committee meeting yesterday. “The findings and evidence of the study shows which settlements and municipalities in the Western Cape have the highest growth potential and socio economic need. AN attorney speaking on behalf of the family of a black Grade 9 learner who was allegedly racially and physically abused and cyberbullied by a white learner at Curro Somerset West High School said the family was disappointed by a lack of action from the school. The pupil has not attended school for two weeks because of the trauma. This as police were called to intervene when members of the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) yesterday demanded a meeting with the principal over the allegations. ANC MPL and Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) member Andile Lili will not appeal his conviction on charges of incitement to murder and assault for utterances he made during a protest seven years ago. The conviction, at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court yesterday, means that Lili could be asked to step aside from office as per the ANC’s recent ‘step-aside’ resolution.
