The outlook for oilseeds this season is good, with groundnut production predicted to increase from last season’s 19 400t to 50 920t this season, sunflower seed from 678 000t to 785 00t, and soya bean from just over 1,17 million tons to about 1,26 million tons, according to the latest estimate of the national Crop Estimates Committee.
Yield per hectare was also predicted to be higher than the previous season’s, thanks to favourable climatic conditions in most of the production areas, up from 0,97t/ha to 1,36t/ha for groundnuts; 1,32t/ha to 1,5t/ha for sunflower seed; and 1,6t/ha to 1,79t/ha for soya bean.
