Bilateral renal agenesis is a medical condition where both foetal kidneys fail to develop, a rare genetic disorder in which the absence of kidneys causes a deficiency of amniotic fluid in a pregnant woman. Unfortunately, there is no treatment, and sadly, babies with bilateral renal agenesis either die before they are born, or very soon after birth.
“Some couples decide to take their baby to term in order to give the child a small moment of life,” reveals Dominic, having researched the condition along with his co-star Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas. “As Chas herself goes on to say, even if it’s just an hour or a day or an afternoon, it’s the child’s lifetime. There’s also the issue of organ donation to consider, as well.”
