omo moving on

IN A BLAZE OF GLORY ATTEMPTING TO JUMP THE GRAND CANYON ON A MONKEY BIKE THE SAD THING about human relationships is that, at some stage, they will end. Sometimes it’s in a blaze of glory attempting to jump the Grand Canyon on a monkey bike but, most of the time, it’s because one person in that relationship just needs to move on. While I’d like to say that ADB’s Digital Editor Olly Malone, who bears a passing resemblance to Travis Pastrana, died in a ball of fire at the bottom of that canyon, he has not. Instead he chickened out on that stunt and accepted a less challenging job. I started working with Olly back in 2011 when he was still at uni. He was a riding buddy of my youngest…

tweaks for 690

KTM HAS TAKEN its magic wand to the 690 Enduro R to provide upgrades to the ABS, ride modes, revised dashboard and incredible partly grey plastics with new graphics. On the latest model, the rider can disengage ABS on the rear wheel but leave it active on the front, perfect for those who can’t finesse a 300mm front disc on dirt. It works when the rider selects Off-Road Mode with the handlebar-mounted switch or Off-Road ABS using the button on the expanded dash. Previously if you wanted Off-Road ABS you had to spring for a KTM Power Parts dongle. The dash now displays the selected gear and whatever astronomical revs you are doing. The 692cc, fuel-injected LC4 is unchanged. It pumps out 55kW and a chunky 73.5Nm. Its sprung by WP gear…

KAWASAKI HEAVY INDUSTRIES will spin off its Power Sports Business next October to strengthen the brand amidst issues it says are industry-wide, including an ageing customer base and expensive emissions compliance laws. KHI is a huge conglomerate employing over 36,000 people in the manufacture of aircraft, ships ps,, trains, robotics, jet turbines and much more. The Power Sports Business ss includes motorcycles, quads,, Jet Skis and engines, and is the giant’s only mass-production, consumer-facing operation. The manufacturer says spinning off this business will “speed up decision making while while offering offering products products and and services in sync with customers”. While already operating motorcycle plants in Thailand and China, Kawasaki says the independent powersports operation will allow closer cooperation within the industry to develop electric drive systems and advance safety features. Motorcycle fans…

life of a rockstar

IF THE ONLY thing holding you back from rising to the amazing calibre [and age] of Graham Jarvis is the equipment, then Husqvarna could have the solution. The Austrian brand recently revealed TE300i and FE350 Rockstar Editions based on the race bikes of Husqvarna factory hard enduro riders Jarvis and Billy Bolt which feature a host of upgrades over the standard models. These include Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing graphics, black powdercoated frames [instead of white], blue CNC-machined triple-clamps, black seatcovers with additional ribbing, front disc protectors, blue Supersprox rear cogs, blue chainguides and grey ODI lock-on handgrips. You might wonder why Pierer Industries is pumping out all these special editions in the middle of a pandemic but it must be working for them. The TE300i and FE350 Rockstar Editions will be…

Bam Bam finished fifth in this year’s AMA SX1 championship for Yamaha, after winning the opening round in Anaheim.
