booking sites online

I’m happy to pay camping fees, totally reasonable expectation in certain areas and I’ll never knock the need to throw a couple of bucks in an envelope. Of course, like most of us, remote area free bush camps are the pinnacle and the sort of camping experience I prefer, but I totally get the need for revenue raising in National Parks or government run camping areas. However, the current proliferation of online campsite bookings for iconic locations all over Australia is a bloody joke. Having just come off the back of filming on both Moreton and Fraser, I was reminded of how this online system is so hopeless. I need to explain that I’m in no way against the actual process of booking online; it’s 2019, makes total sense to book…

the future of camping

There’s no doubt about it, more and more camping grounds are being shut down. It’s of course very upsetting that this is the case, but more times than not it’s our own fault. When I say our fault, I’m not necessarily talking about 4WDers, but a combination of outdoor enthusiasts who abuse and trash our outdoors. From the dirt squirter brigade to 4WDers, if we continue to leave rubbish and trash our camping spots, they will be closed up because that is often the easiest way to manage these areas. Yep, we know and understand it’s only a very small minority of idiots who leave campsites a mess, but this doesn’t matter as the fact of the matter is that our public servants are closing them up. Without pointing the…

engine upgrades

The Luxxy is coming up to 300,000km, and it’s almost time I gave the engine a bit of a birthday. As I’m sure is the same with a lot of 4WDers out there, I have always considered reliability to be more important than power. That’s also partly to do with the fact that the little four cylinder indirect injected turbo diesel under the bonnet of the vehicle was never designed to be a powerhouse. I just need it to run, as it needs to get me to and from work as well as to the tracks. However, it would also be nice to not be overtaken by trucks up the freeway… I have done a little to the engine already in the form of a 3in exhaust, a performance module and…

keeping in touch

MEETING GRAHAM AND SHAUN Hi everyone, "I am new to 4WD Action magazine, and new to 4WDing all together to be honest”, writes John “Since watching your DVDs, my 6yo son Chase has become an avid fan of the show. Yesterday (6th April 2019) I took him to the 4x4 Outdoor show in Brisbane. I told him that he might be able to see some of the team from the DVD’s there. For the last month, all I have heard from Chase is what he is going to say to everyone when he meets them. I did not want to burst his bubble, but I did say that the boys may be a bit busy and he may not be able to actually meet anyone, just see them on stage. Well, not…
