Homespun magazine is a place of inspiration, it combines creative techniques with a vast array of styles and themes taken from a team of leading craftspeople throughout Australia and the world. Homespun is a publication that is at the forefront of the industry, made by people who are passionate about craft. Welcome to our annual Winter Warmers issue! Our cosy ideas to knit and crochet include a men’s cardigan by Kathy Ramunni, a warm scarf made by Liz Castle and a snuggly throw by Kylie Moleta. There are some cute ideas in Yarn Worthy and Pin Interest to add to your winter makes. We also share a lovely mix of patchwork, appliqué, embroidery and sewing ideas. Part 2 of our beautiful Bonheur de Jour Block of the Month is included. We have added some handy information about cutting guides for the 18 fabrics and some suggestions on how to cut the larger shapes first to ensure you make wise use of your fabric. CAUGHT OUR EYE QuiltCon 2022 — the largest modern quilting show in the world — was held in Phoenix, Arizona, in February. Best of Show was awarded to Hillary Goodwin of California for her quilt entitled 2020 Vision (above). It features 25 eyes pieced in black with a white background and blue teardrops appliquéd on top. The hand quilting features ‘2020’ repeated across the top with various words sprinkled throughout, and ‘2021’ at the end. We were particularly impressed by the entries in the Modern Traditionalism category, which requires entrants to modernise a traditional block or quilt pattern. Third place in this category went to Irina Timofeeva of Russia for Flown Away Geese (below). She transformed the traditional Flying Geese block almost completely, leaving only a recognisable silhouette. Her design was…

Growing up in a small Polish village, Kasia Jacquot has memories of wild flowers, fields of corn, little wooden houses and magical silent winters. However, it’s the traditional crafts that hold extra special significance for her. From the colourful folk costumes worn at festivals, to the intricately hand painted eggs, the decorative paper cut-outs hung along walls and ceiling beams and, in particular, the vibrant textiles.
