ACTION NEEDED TO CUT SKY-HIGH FUEL PRICES
WHAT GOES UP must come down. Except fuel pump prices. Petrol wholesale prices have fallen around 5p over the past month but that has not been passed on to consumers, leading to accusations of profiteering by fuel retailers from everyone from the AA to US president Joe Biden. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has called the growing gap between wholesale and retail prices “a cause for concern” and promised action will be taken if wrongdoing is found. Even if that drop does get passed on, petrol prices will remain sky-high. Fuelling cars and vans remains essential, not optional, for so many of us – emergency service drivers, tradespeople and those living in rural areas among them.
