IF THERE’S ONE car company I’m especially willing to succeed, it’s Jaguar Land Rover. A brilliant heritage with good-looking and well-engineered cars, and everything to play for, I’d say. But despite some success stories, such as the new Land Rover Defender, its financial outlook remains pretty dismal. And then there’s Jaguar, which seems to have long been in stasis. If anything is going to rock an already unsteady boat, it’s the shock resignation of CEO Thierry Bolloré (p9), announced last week. This was the man who was supposed to save JLR, by making it profitable, improving reliability and readying Jaguar for a dramatic new era.
