paws for thought

I was absolutely devasted when my cat Whiska died. I’d had her since she was a kitten – and she wasn’t old. Tragically, she was hit by a car, there was nothing the vet could do to save her. I cried myself to sleep every night – but one night, as I lay in bed, I distinctly felt her jump onto the bed and curl up on my legs. I fell asleep, comforted – and next morning, you could still see a tiny dent where her body had been lying. It cheered me up so much to realise her spirit still lived on. Our loved ones never truly leave us. If you ever visit 14th century Bouzov Castle in Moravia, the Czech Republic, you’ll come across this painting by Gabriel von…

save our souls

Melanie Clowes, 44, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs Pottering around my kitchen, I checked the potatoes bubbling away on the stove. ‘Tea will be ready in two minutes,’ I thought to myself. Suddenly, my mobile beeped. I had a Facebook message. I looked at the boiling spuds – they needed my attention! But I picked up my phone and checked the message anyway. You see, I knew that the sender could be a witch needing my help. And she or he might be suicidal. My intuition was right. As I read the message, my heart went out to the witch in the US. ‘Nobody cares about me,’ she wrote. ‘I’ve decided to take my own life.’ Quickly, I turned off the potatoes and opened up my laptop. I do all of my support work at my dining room…

queen of the craft

Using my psychic gifts, I tuned into the worried student’s situation, then pulled out one tarot card. The Justice card told me that the decision was a mistake. I messaged the student saying, ‘Don’t worry, there’s been an admin error. The mess will be sorted out.’ A few days later, I received a message from the relieved student saying I was right. His grant had been reinstated, which was great news. How do I know so much about the craft? My mum was very spiritual and my dad was a full-on pagan. While other kids were watching TV, I was in the woods with my father, learning about the plants and animals or drawing them at home. I grew up in Stoke-on-Trent and I spent hours in the woods near Barlaston with dad,…

how did you score?

Mostly A: You are a Hedge witch. Working with herbs and earth magic, hedge witches possess the ability to ‘jump the hedge’ – that is, to communicate with the spirit world and send messages through the astral plane. It’s possible the myth of witches flying on broomsticks is a metaphor for their ability to take off into the spiritual realm. Let your spirit soar! Mostly B: You are a Kitchen witch. A kitchen witch focuses her magical practices upon the hearth and home, incorporating every day herbs and ingredients into her spell work. Many kitchen witches are also skilled at crafts such as felting and basket weaving, into which they weave their magic! Mostly C: You are a Hereditary witch. Born into magic, you come from a long line of witches – and maybe warlocks…
