Reconnecting with mum STAR EMAIL FROM: SARAH McHALE I so enjoyed the article by Emma Winterschladen [Sep, p84] reminiscing about being inspired by her mother. She’d buy olive oil from the local chemist and was overjoyed when the supermarket began stocking dried spaghetti wrapped in dark blue paper. She inspired my own early attempts in the kitchen, giving me My First Cook Book . Now I’m thrilled to have her index box file…

How we’ve missed festivals in 2020! One of the oldest and most respected is Ludlow Food Festival in Shropshire, held since 1995. Due to cancellation this year, emergency funds need to be raised by December to protect its future as a brilliant and much needed cheerleader for the region’s independent producers. If you want to show support for the not-for-profit festival, you can donate and receive a variety of perks, from pin badges and discounted tickets to goody bags. Visit foodfestival.co.uk/ friends…
