WELCOME TO THE JUNE 2019 issue of Digital SLR Photography. Over the years I’ve had the privilege to meet and become friends with several professional photographers in the UK, and one I particularly admire is John McMurtrie. We first met in the late 90’s when he was working in the technical department of Nikon UK and shooting gigs in his spare time. Since then he has become one of the most popular photographers within the music community. As well as being the official photographer for Iron Maiden, John regularly travels the world shooting the biggest names in the music business. We were only there for two days, but got to witness fantastic morning and evening light.” NIKON D7100 WITH TOKINA AT-X 11-20MM F/2.8 PRO DX LENS. EXPOSURE: 1/60SEC AT F/8 (ISO 100). Synevyr Lake by Misha Reme www.mishareme.com (Above) “This is Lake Synevyr, the most famous and most popular lake in the Ukrainian Carpathians. CAMERA: NIKON D850 / LENS: AF-S 24-70MM F/2.8G IT’S NOT DIFFICULT to see why so many photographers are infatuated with capturing close-ups. Focusing on one small part of an everyday object allows you to see it in a whole new light, and possibly even gain an appreciation for its complexity and composition. The natural world offers no shortage of this, and there are incredible details, structures and patterns to be found all around us; from plants and flowers to tiny creatures and even our own bodies – they all reveal hidden detail when viewed close-up. The good news about this quick and easy project is that you don’t even really need a macro lens to give it a whirl – any standard zoom lens will do, providing you can focus close enough…
