Any distance gained means getting a little closer to the pin and a couple of strokes saved. However, as my buddies would say, it’s also that much deeper into the hazard! Still, I’ll take whatever distance gain I can get, especially when one of THE problem clubs in my bag is the driver. I know guys who love to bomb in down the fairway (or rough, or hazard) but when in my hands, that damned number one wood is a train wreck waiting…

the ryder cup

From September 25 - 30, 24 of the world’s top golfers from Europe and the United States convened at Le Golf National in the suburbs of Paris to compete in the greatest team competition of the sport, The Ryder Cup. On paper, Team USA sent one their strongest teams in history including 2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed and Tiger Woods, fresh from his win at the Tour Championships. However, it was the Rolex-sponsored Team Europe that took home the 2018 Ryder Cup, winning with a 17.5 - 10.5 points over their cross Atlantic cousins. Led by Thomas Bjorn, the Europeans delivered America’s worst loss in Ryder Cup history since 2006 with five match wins on both Friday and Saturday, and winning seven matches on the Sunday singles.…

pre-game parameters

You are going to play in a tournament. It could be amateur, it could be professional. To start with, remind yourself why you are here. What good is this tournament going to bring you? A new experience, an opportunity to learn and make progress? Pleasure to share the course with other golfers, pleasure to be surrounded by a pleasant environment? Just take the time to connect yourself with all the potential benefits you can get out of this competition. Then check your competition position. There are four possibilities: Position 1 [+/-]: corresponds to an overestimation of your capacities and to an underestimation of the course’s difficulties and of the other players’ value. It generates excessive confidence and insufficient pre-competition activation. Your combativeness and concentration are going to be under-activated, for taking things so…
