editor’s letter

Welcome to our annual FABULOUS AT EVERY AGE issue, where we celebrate talented and inspirational Australian women across the age spectrum. As it is right on deadline, the time I always write my editor’s letter, I have just re-read our FAEA feature in its entirety. And it is inspiring — I could publish one of those little coffee-table quote books with the words of wisdom shared by the women we have interviewed for the 2015 portfolio. I especially love what former Queensland premier Anna Bligh says: “During my life, I have learnt more from my failures than my successes. For me, the message out of that is it’s important to take risks . . . ” As a modern woman, I do feel there is so much pressure today to be…

STEVEN CHEE “I like to think I’m pretty adaptable; I have to shoot in all conditions and locations, so I need to be ready, as even carefully laid plans can change,” says the photographer, who shot model Emily Baker in Prada for BAZAAR’ August cover and in KITX for “X Factor”, page 108. He also captured five inspiring women for the annual “BAZAAR Fabulous at Every Age” portfolio (page 74). “I love a challenge,” he adds. On set I like to listen to … “Hip-hop. My assistants take over with the latest and greatest, which keeps me up to speed. ” My favourite place to shoot is … “Queenstown in New Zealand. It’s the only location whose natural beauty has exceeded any description or recommendation. And it’s so close to home. ” The one…

letter of the month

BOLDLY GOING How delightful to read Kate Betts’s piece “An American in Paris” in June/July. Although it all happened many years ago, it is always so inspiring to read about people who chase their dreams and live the lives they want to live. Many of us dream of living abroad, but the true percentage of those who follow through with that notion would be far less than those who just think about it. Good on Kate for following through and for now having an amazing story to write about. Thank you, BAZAAR, for encouraging us to think about our lives; that move to London for me might not be so far away if I just put my mind to it. In the words of Betts,“If you believe in something, you…

“I’ve been incredibly lucky that I’ve been able to travel and work all over the world,” says the BAZAAR cover girl. “I have just come back from Iceland, where I was shooting on location. The environment is unlike anything I have experienced. ” Baker travelled to another idyllic, if slightly warmer, location — Jervis Bay on New South Wales’s South Coast — to model pieces from Kit Willow’s new label, KITX. See all the looks on page 108. The thing I miss most about New Zealand when I’m away is … “my family. We spend a lot of time enjoying the outdoors, going fishing, hiking, skiing and swimming. I don’t get to see them as often, so when I do, I treasure it. ”The most unusual place I ever worked…

wish list

My style is chic meets eccentric. I’m really enjoying our benah for Karen Walker bags. This leather SATCHEL (6) is perfect. For night, I’m usually in a dress, but at the moment it’s FLORAL FLARES ( 3 ) and a MATCHING TOP (2). Bling-wise, I like our CHUNKY STUDS (4) with garnets and our new LOVE/HATE RINGS (1 5 ). My MUST-HAVE SHOES ( 5 ) are from the Topshop x adidas Originals collection. I have far too much NAVY (7) in my wardrobe, but I love it so. Bose NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES (8) are my favourite travel companion. TAN BOOTS ( 9 ) work with everything. I adore VALENTINO (10), and CHRISTOPHE LEMAIRE (11) is one of my favourite designers. We’ve just launched our FIRST FRAGRANCES, a trio called A,…
