RECENTLY, Bauer Media Group, the publisher of this magazine, hosted a luxury summit to present a trend forecast to the brands that work with us, to outline where we believe luxury is going. Once upon a time, it was straightforward. If you wanted to announce you’d ‘made’ it, you’d buy a vintage Porsche roadster, place your name on the waitlist for a Birkin or treat yourself to a Rolex. For some people, this thinking still happily applies. Personally speaking, splurging on a luxury bag and knowing the craftsmanship it took to create it justifies the dollars. But for a younger generation — millennials and even centennials (those born after 2000) — as well as buying products, they’re big into signifying status through experiences. And freedom. Luxury and status will always stem from…

Anna Mila The Berlin-born model has worked in every major city there is, so we whisked her away to hike the trails of New Zealand’s inimitable South Island. As the sun set against tussocked mountains around Lake Hāwea, our winter knits and coats shoot (page 92) became something more magical. Luxury in 2019 means … “no more wars, no more terror. Personally, it means spending time with my friends and family.” My favourite holiday destination is … “I’m usually travelling alone for work, so I don’t care where I go as long as I travel with the people I love.” The world needs more … “consciousness of saving the environment and lessening our plastic waste”. Rachel Lees “In the travel sector, off-the-beaten-path experiences that offer a deeper look at the way locals live…

elsa pataky

At first glance, the Spanish-born, Aussie-based actor is the poster child for Byron Bay earth mamas and their fantasy family lifestyles. You know: radiantly pretty, provoking serious Instagram envy with their nutmeg tans, sinewy yoga-toned limbs, blonde wavy hair and tribe of adorable kids. However, Pataky boasts a serious point of difference: a CV crammed with Spanish TV series, European films, Hollywood blockbusters and Netflix hits, for starters. A movie-star husband. And an encyclopedic knowledge of health and fitness — which is how she got those enviable abs. On the red carpet, beauty-wise she opts for powerful but pared back. Illuminating primers to give that complexion perfection extra glow. A swirl of bronzer on cheekbones and temples to accentuate her natural colouring. Brown shadow swept across lids. A natural lip.…

perfect day

4.00AM I live in San Francisco, where our house is right by the ocean. Early mornings are the best time for me to get work done, so I always start with a coffee downstairs and work until my daughter, Alea, wakes up. 7.00AM I get back into bed with Alea and we talk about the day ahead. We have a tiny ritual of starting each day by saying, “It’s going to be a great day!” 7:30AM I keep my morning routine quick — I’ll wash my face with Tatcha The Deep Cleanse, apply The Essence and then The Water Cream. I love The Silk Canvas Protective Primer — it softens and blurs my complexion so I don’t need to bother with foundation. To finish, I’ll add The Pearl concealer under…

STYLE I’d describe my style as EASY ELEGANCE. I like Khaite for MODERN SEPARATES, Dior for classic tailoring and Brock Collection for FEMININE WHIMSY. For accessories, it has always been Manolo Blahnik and Hermès — they are CLASSIC for a reason. The Khaite Circle Tote is on my radar right now. Jewellery-wise, I’m coveting The Alchemist collection from CVC Stones. For A/W 2019, I’m thinking a Chanel tweed coat, Khaite OVERSIZED KNITS and Brock Collection flat suede boots. I wear a lot of jackets, so don’t stick to one specific shape. Boxy and oversized works just as well as FEMININE AND FITTED. I like midiskirts, straight or full, and a classic cigarette pant that I make with a tailor in Paris. Anything that shows a HINT OF COLLARBONE works for me. BEAUTY I…
