editor’s letter

A FEW WEEKS AGO, on an unseasonably chilly evening in rain-sodden Rome, I was a guest at Gucci’s spectacular cruise 2020 show, the runway of which weaved through the marble halls of the Capitoline Museums, the scene eerily watched over by sculptures of Zeus, Apollo and Hercules. One of the most talked-about moments of the night (not counting Stevie Nicks’s surprise duet performance with Harry Styles at the after-party — or Hazza’s questionable blue and pink manicure) was the runway debut of the ‘uterus dress’. This pleated, long-sleeved gown embroidered with a sequined flowering uterus, which closely followed a blazer plastered with the slogan “MY BODY MY CHOICE”, had us all surmising that abortion legality was front of mind for designer Alessandro Michele — a simple yet very effective means…

Jessica Hart A year ago, the New York-based Australian megamodel turned a corner in her personal life and decided to give up drinking alcohol. She talks about the motivation behind her sobriety, and the profound changes her life has undergone since, on page 32. Visionary, to me, means … “someone who sees the things that have never been done before and has ideas that are going to help to better the world or the way we look at things. Visionaries help us view things in a different way. They allow our minds to see that things are possible. They’re pioneers, creating change for the good.” If I could talk to my 18-year-old self, I would say … “‘Don’t be ashamed of who you are.’ And, ‘You’re young — enjoy it!’” My…

naomi watts

TALENTED AND TIMELESSLY ELEGANT, Naomi Watts is Harper’s BAZAAR Australia’s forever woman, this month appearing on our cover for the sixth time. A fan of classic silhouettes, Watts favours sleek column gowns on the red carpet (all the better for showing off her impressively toned arms) and opts for a healthy rotation of designers ranging from Armani Privé to Stella McCartney to Louis Vuitton. The Oscar nominee pares it back when off-duty with sons Sasha and Kai in soft suiting, fluid tailoring and monochrome neutrals. Beauty-wise, the 50-year-old focuses on skincare — unsurprisingly, considering she recently partnered with ethical beauty company Onda Beauty. “I definitely feel that as I’ve gotten older, I’ve figured out what works,” she tells BAZAAR. my wish list elin kling

BEAUTY My absolute favourite is Essential LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER from Noir, a conditioning primer that I use every day. It works as well in towel-dried as dry hair. MY FAVOURITE PERFUME is Carnal Flower by Frédéric Malle. Always. I’M COVETING a [Baby Cheeks] Blush Stick from Westman Atelier. TRAVEL MY CONSTANT TRAVEL COMPANION is an Eye and Lip Perfection [à Porter] by La Prairie. Chic packaging, and it moisturises lips and eyes when you are on the go. Travelling is absolutely my number-one source of inspiration. NEXT STOP IS MARRAKECH, where we are renting a house for a week. It’s a place I love to go back to. STYLE I’d describe my style as SMART AND EMPOWERING — simplicity, with an interesting silhouette and BOLD ACCENTS. I love our [Totême’s] pre-fall 2019 leather jacket with a…

perfect day

7.30AM I’m based in Sydney, but I travel extensively for work, so I often wake up, look at the ceiling and think, Where the heck am I? I’m not a morning person, but that’s all about to change with my first baby due this month! 8.00AM I have a coffee and cuddle with my overweight chihuahua, Zeus, before I head off to my morning training session. I catch up on overnight emails while I’m on the machines in the gym. 9.00AM Post-shower, I wash my face and apply an oil — I’ve become obsessed with La Prairie’s Swiss Ice Crystal Cellular Dry Oil for a serious glow — followed by Rationale’s day moisturiser with SPF. I apply my makeup, paying acute attention to my eyebrows. I normally have samples of products I’m…
