welcome to the luxury issue

Elle Macpherson wearing Lisa Marie Fernandez one-piece swimsuit, $534, lisamariefernandez. com; her own jewellery. I realise the word “journey” is overused in the fashion industry, but I have to share with you the most amazing journey the BAZAAR team went on to capture this month’s cover story, because it’s fantastic armchair travel. I’ve been chatting to Elle Macpherson for a while now about working on a cover together. I’m a longtime fan and have interviewed the supermodel several times throughout my career — our most recent collaboration was two years ago, when Bryan Adams photographed her for the cover of BAZAAR’ 2013 FABULOUS AT EVERY AGE issue. Macpherson was naked bar a pair of stockings, you may remember? She was living in London at the time, so it was a…

TIM ASHTON“A great photograph contains an element of truth,” says the photographer who captured the Today show’s Sylvia Jeffreys for BAZAAR’ “At Work” series on page 78. “There needs to be something about a picture that connects who we are to it. ”The most memorable moment in my career so far was … “being a photo assistant in New York and managing to get a three-minute portrait session with Crystal Renn using just my iPhone”. On set I can’t live without … “good assistants”. Luxury is … “great food with great friends”. My favourite place in Australia to shoot is … “the Kimberley in Western Australia. It’s so wild and remote but full of beauty. ”My dream subject to shoot is … “someone like Matthew McConaughey or Adrien Brody for…

letter of the month

NEEDED FUNDS Thank you, BAZAAR and Emma Balfour for bringing attention to MS via your story “Relative Matters” [BAZAAR May]. MS is indeed an insidious disease — mostly because it cannot be pinned down. It affects everyone who has it differently and you never know when you will have a relapse or which part of your body will be affected, and this can lead to a constant feeling of anxiety. I was diagnosed with MS in 2011 at the age of 41. It took a good six months to get a firm diagnosis and once diagnosed I changed my diet, started taking medication and did as much research as I could to prepare my “fight plan”. I also take part in non-intrusive medical trials at the Royal Melbourne Hospital MS…

Elle’s style has never been about having the “It” thing; instead it’s about having the right thing. Think: the perfect leather pants to leg it around LA in; an effortless checked flannel shirt paired with co-ordinating reflective shades for skiing in Aspen; or a minimalist white shift for attending Miami Art Basel. In doing so, the beauty and health entrepreneur has curated a wardrobe — or should we say wardrobes — built for her lifestyle. Now that’ luxurious. ON THE COVERPhotographed by Simon Upton. Styled by Karla Clarke. Elle Macpherson wears Christian Dior dress, $7600; her own rings. All prices approximate. Hair and makeup by Troy Jensen. Hair extensions: easihair pro. Recreate Elle’s look with Dior. On face: Glow Maximizer; Diorskin Nude Air Serum Foundation in 030; Diorskin Nude Air…

wish list

“Sleek with a fab shoe” is my style in a nutshell. Being petite, I love BODY-CON DRESSES (4); I disappear in anything too boxy. I love the chic simplicity of MIU MIU BAGS (3) and shoes — or anything with a HEEL (6) — for something a little quirky. I’m not afraid of colour. Red, blue, mustard, pink … I love it all, along with ERDEM PRINTS (1): so feminine. The Prada DOUBLE BAG (9) is perfect as it has stacks of room. The Canturi Odyssey BUTTERFLY RING (5) is my favourite jewellery piece, but a Cartier TANK WATCH (14) is still on my wish list. I love the easeof a dress but I also love statement pieces like a chic LEATHER SKIRT (8). Eveningwear is usually a simple BLACK…
