The last time we photographed LaraWorthington for a BAZAAR cover was back in 2015, and the BAZAAR fashion team, Lara, her husband, Sam Worthington, and their baby son, Rocket, rode in convoy to the Woodstock, New York, property of legendary Australian photographer Russell James. The image of Lara running through the long grass laughing, which featured on our subscribers’ cover, is still one of my all-time favourite covers. So I was thrilled when Lara said yes to working with us again for our annual beauty issue this year. Lara was the perfect choice, as she is a beauty entrepreneur with her bronzing brand The Base, as well as an ambassador for Christian Dior Beauty. For this month’s story, we again flew into New York, but this time Lara, the BAZAAR…

Anson Smart “I loved that, despite the beautiful design and finishes, it felt like a happy and chaotic family home — full of love and life,” says the lifestyle photographer, who captured the recently renovated Bondi home of author and artist Miranda Darling and her husband, architect Nick Tobias, on page 217. The most inspiring interior I have ever photographed is … “Aerin Lauder’s Palm Beach, Florida, home. It was next-level luxurious, as you can imagine. I always enjoy photographing creatives’ homes, because they have layer upon layer of texture and soul. You get a real insight into the person who lives there. ” Some of the most interesting trends in interior design right now are … “plants and colour creeping back in, along with a mixture of materials like copper, wood and…

FIRING UP This issue could not have come at a better time. For the past four weeks, I’ve been battling my own paralysing ‘mate’ anxiety. A long-standing mate I’ve come to know so well; I truly don’t know what my life would be like without it. Work, social life, getting outside to breathe fresh air, even basic personal hygiene, it’s all compromised when I’m waist-deep in an anxiety-fuelled episode; sometimes the fog is too dense and basic things seem like mammoth tasks I have not an ounce of energy to perform. What Sarah [Wilson] said about it being “a matter of firing the fuck up” [“My Mate Anxiety”, BAZAAR April]: yes! One-hundred per cent, yes! Today I made it to work for the first time in weeks, and I realise I may…

lara worthington

Thanks to her cross-continental lifestyle in the US, a hands-on approach to mothering her two small children and her fledgling beauty brand, Worthington no longer has time to be on the social scene with the same regularity she was in her early twenties. But when she is snapped, whether at the airport or on the streets of New York, there’s no doubt her style game is still as strong as ever — nothing but respect to anyone who gets off a long-haul flight to Sydney wearing a new-season Balenciaga blazer. ON THE COVER Photographed by Sylvè Colless. Styled by Naomi Smith. Lara Worthington wears Christian Dior jumper, $1950, and briefs, $1900; her own jewellery. Prices approximate. Hair by Fernando Torrent at L’Atelier NYC; makeup by Aidan Keogh at Honey Artists. Sylvè Colless…

wish list

When I travel between London and LA, I like to be comfortable, so I’m coveting a CASHMERE TRACKSUIT [6] and this RAINBOW EYE MASK [5]. LEOPARD-PRINT BOOTIES [11] are on high rotation in my wardrobe. My favourite scent from Jo Malone London is TUBEROSE ANGELICA COLOGNE [8] — the small bottle is perfect for my HANDBAG [10]. Crème de la Mer FACE WASH [12] comes with me everywhere, as do these SHADES [3]. I’m currently living in a BELLA FREUD SWEATSHIRT [14] and BOYFRIEND JEANS [13]. For bedtime, you can’t go wrong with MONOGRAMMED PYJAMAS [4]. I use SURF SPRAY [9] for beachy waves, and love a CLASSIC BLACK SWIMSUIT [1]. I usually adapt my scents with the seasons, but when I want to relax, this shower oil [7] is…
