editor’s letter

It’s not every day that you get a bear hug from one of the most influential people in fashion. I had the privilege of meeting Gucci’s creative director,Alessandro Michele, the day after he presented his resort 2017 collection at London’s Westminster Abbey (yes, it was as incredible as it looks in the pictures), and I can report that the Italian style genius is down-to-earth, warm and knows how to make a journalist instantly relax with his big, warm embrace. Michele is a great talker, too. He is incredibly passionate about what he does at Gucci and his mind is lightning-quick, which helps explain why his collections are always a perfect mishmash of ideas and colour. We chatted for hours (you can read my interview with him on page 144), covering…

Kenneth Goh “The Gucci resort show space at Westminster Abbey was so romantic and hauntingly beautiful — it made the show lyrical and quintessentially English, and perfectly in tune with [creative director] Alessandro Michele’s lavish rendition of British Italia,” says the editor-in-chief of Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore, who styled key pieces from the collection in London’s De Beauvoir Square. “The location was the perfect mix of hip east London with a gentle nod to good ol’ Blighty. ” See the full shoot, with BAZAAR editor-in-chief Kellie Hush’s interview with Michele, on page 144. My favourite Gucci look from resort was … “probably #37, because it took a tongue-in-cheek poke at British aristocracy, added a dash of punk and a sliver of Rule Britannia for a fitting homage to the UK”. The trends I’m loving…

As Baldwin effortlessly transitions from ‘one to watch’ to fully-fledged It girl, her style choices have also been receiving a greater amount of attention. Perhaps her most memorable look to date is the pitch-perfect sheer Georges Chakra jumpsuit she wore to the MTV Video Music Awards (read: just the right amount of skin). But, much like her contemporaries, the model loves anything hooded and oversized for those much-papped off-duty moments (think: plenty of Vetements). Leather bikers, flannies and longer-than-long boots (sky-high and thigh-high) are also Baldwin’s MVPs and help to define her youthful yet fashion-forward look. STILL LIFE: NIC GOSSAGE.
