editor’s letter

“Ialways had this idea that modelling is such a short-lived job, so to do it while I can and save the money while I can. Ironically, I have been doing it for 20 years, and I have been working super hard and have been really dedicated to my job. And I have enjoyed it, but now my priorities have shifted,” Miranda Kerr tells me over the phone from her home in Malibu during our interview for this month’s cover story. When you do the maths, that means Kerr, now 34, has been working since she was 14. But the shift she refers to isn’t about slowing down. You can read about Kerr’s new chapter on page 90. PS: her adorable dog’s name is Teddy. While Kerr amps it up, we’re holiday…

Kaila Matthews BAZAAR’s market editor has had a busy month editing the key resort 2018 trends for the pages of “The BAZAAR” and assisting stylist Meg Gray for the shoot “How the Light Gets In” (page 108), which was shot at the Love Cabins in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. “My favourite part of the property was the tiled gecko that looks out over the mountains — not a feature you see every day,” she says. The most comfortable shoes to wear on set are …“sneakers — preferably something to slip in and out of easily. I have my eyes on the Balenciaga Speeds — these would be perfect for set.” The most random thing I’ve ever had to source for a shoot is … “It’s a tie between a donkey and 10…

inspired by what you’ve seen in bazaar ?

COVER TALK “ABOUT TIME THE BOSS WAS BACK ON THE COVER OF @BAZAARAUSTRALIA” - @rachnouveau “YAASSS KATE THE GREAT” - @nycfemme5 “LOVE KATE MOSS!!!” - @beautifymeperfect FASHION FOR LIFE It would be interesting to know how many people my age (80-plus, that is) are still devoted readers of BAZAAR. Fashion, accessories, makeup, hairstyles, jewellery, etc., have been a lifelong source of pleasure and, quite often, investment for me, and Harper’s BAZAAR has it all. Throw in gorgeous photographic layouts and pithy and pertinent journalistic gems, and it remains a highlight of my month. I can’t recall how long I’ve bought the magazine, and I have no plans to stop. PS: I envy the group around your water cooler. wish list

My longest designer love affair is with Phoebe Philo. No matter where she goes, I follow (and spend). I don’t love crazy prints unless it’s a seasonal favourite; I’m rarely in florals. I always pack La Mer FACE OIL [1] when I travel. I’m often in LEVI’S [5] with a WHITE TEE [2] and Converse. Basic is always best. I love Gucci for STATEMENT SHOES [3]. This MASK [4] hydrates my blonde locks. I really want The Row’s VELVET POUCH [6] in navy — perfect to dress up a blazer and jeans by day, and add a vintage twist to a sexy gown by night. I’m dying to own my first pair of MANOLOS [7]. I like dangerously unbuttoned shirts flashing a LACE BRA [8]. I bought some Sophie Bille…
