editor’s letter

I was in the South of France last month with the Zimmermann sisters, Nicky and Simone, to toast the opening of their Saint-Tropez boutique (see page 208). I have been to some impressive fashion events during my career, but this two-day gathering was one of the most magical. Magical because of the venues — Les Salins for dinner and Château Volterra for a long lunch on the lawn — and the fact that some of the most influential women in fashion flew in especially from New York, Paris, London, Sydney and Los Angeles. The Zimmermanns’ close friend Sophie Lee was there, as were fellow actors Melissa George, Emma Roberts and Olivia Munn. It was a powerful — and beautiful — bunch of women. I was particularly blown away when I arrived at…

MICHAEL “SKINY” POWER The producer travelled an hour out of Los Angeles to Lancaster for the “West Side Story” fashion shoot (page 146) with brother and sister models Nils and Lou Schoof. It’s Power’s job to ensure a shoot goes ahead without any mishaps, which means countless hours of pre-production, casting and paperwork so the team can focus on bringing the creative vision to life. Family, to me, means ... “looking after each other. Not just one’s actual family, but also in the context of the industry I work in, which in my job makes me the dad. I make sure no one gets hurt and people are well fed and watered. I also broker peace accords between warring factions! I make sure money is there and good plans are in place.” Shooting…

Extra points to Victoria Beckham, who is reportedly onto her 14th ring from husband David. ‘SHOULD I QUIT DRINKING?’ Indulging in alcohol results in weight gain, lowered energy levels and a poor complexion — so why do we keep doing it? cate blanchett

Blanchett is a passionate champion of equality in Hollywood, famously asking a cameraman “Do you do that to the guys?” after a particularly objectifying pan of her outfit at the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Oscar winner and Giorgio Armani global beauty ambassador (a gig that includes being the face of fragrance Sì Passione) has proven time and again substance and style are not mutually exclusive on the red carpet, keeping her gown game as consistent as her feminist convictions and politics. Blanchett is known for taking sartorial risks, whether it’s embracing bold prints and asymmetry or championing an up-and-coming talent, and her outfit choices are always as original and intelligent as her film roles. THE LOOK Photographed by STEVEN CHEE. Styled by KARLA CLARKE. Cate Blanchett wears Giorgio Armani vest,…

wish list

My style is ECLECTIC. My motto is ‘never say never’ [10]. I’m so into SUMMER in this moment [6, 13]. My favourite designers are J.W.Anderson and Miuccia Prada [7, 9, 11, 14]. I love everything they do. My FAVOURITE accessories are Chanel [8, 12], because they’re BOLD. I also like handcrafted jewellery. I want the TOTAL-BLACK boots from Saint Laurent [3]. I DESIRE a Cartier Panthère ring [2]. I can already IMAGINE it on my finger! Most FLATTERING on me are VINTAGE military and ’80s-inspired jackets [1]. OVERSIZED T-shirts suit me. I love vintage SKIRTS and PANTS. I love the SCENT of Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower [4]. I use it every day. I use beauty masks to REINVIGORATE my skin. TRAVELLING, I take a HYDRATING cream by La Mer [5]. My…

the year that changed my life

“People often think, Bambi: glamour, modelling, but with Instagram, I can show the down days, the eight injections a day, glucose tests in the middle of the night when I’m sweating all over and scared.” WHILE I WAS GROWING UP, my parents made photo albums of my childhood, categorising them into seven-year collections based on philosopher Rudolf Steiner’s theory of human development. He proposed the idea that people develop in seven-year cycles that are linked to astrology. The cycle from age 21 to 28 is associated with the sun, elements of intellect, the soul and consciousness, and coming into your own.As I pass from one cycle into another — turning 28 this past June — I feel as if I have shed my adolescent skin and am standing in the sun as a…
