graceful gray

Starring Role CREATE CASUAL ELEGANCE WITH A LARGE DOSE OF GRAY ANCHOR an airy, transitionalstyle kitchen with muted gray base cabinets. This keeps the focus on the bright white walls and helps hide spills and scuffs below. Create consistency by using the same color on the island cabinetry and on tall cabinet units at each end of the kitchen. SUPPORT the color scheme with other materials in shades of gray. ACCENT with a bright color. Here, a green pantry door adds refreshing contrast to the neutral palette. Colorful dishware and accessories on open shelves are playful, but could easily be switched out to update the…

southern-style kitchens

NATURAL WONDER True to its Southern roots, this Florida kitchen features handsome millwork that echoes the moldings, columns, and cornices found on the Georgianstyle home’s exterior. A large-scale Palladian window with shapely dentil-molding cornices connects the kitchen to nature by channeling natural light and embracing a riverside view. The kitchen’s hard edges are softened by the arched window, tone-on-tone wallpaper, and a pair of antique French alabaster pendants adorned with bas relief designs and exquisite veining. INSPIRED BY THE AMERICAN SOUTH’S WELL-KNOWN HOSPITALITY, these kitchens boast traditional features, elegant materials, and plenty of room to make everyone feel at home. Large windows and soothing palettes make these spaces appear perpetually filled with light. Handsome crown molding and other architectural details deliver room-defining character. Glass-front cabinets show off treasured keepsakes. Antique furnishings mix…
