ALZHEIMER’S UPDATE With the rate of Alzheimer’s disease being higher in women, researchers are looking at the link between brain health and the female hormone estrogen. A large-scale study reported in The Journal of the North American Menopause Society reveals that long-term use of HRT helps protect against the disease, notably in older women. The UK NICE guidelines on menopause confirm there is no upper age limit for HRT – it may be taken for as long as there is benefit.
