WRITERS and analysts like Peter Bruce, among others, have argued recently that African countries are hesitant to vaccinate and that there is no shortage of vaccines, but a shortage of arms, or what I would term “arm poverty”.
Ramaphosa, and thus South Africa, is the loudest voice in Africa confronting vaccine apartheid. Ramaphosa has been unambiguous in highlighting what is essentially vaccine colonialism.
The analysts and writers and Ramaphosa are correct. There certainly is vaccine apartheid and colonialism, but then there is also arm poverty and infrastructure poverty. For now, allow me to focus on South Africa.
