too perfect

TIM SIMPSON: PUBLISHER Tim has a thirst for knowledge and a passion for teaching others the skills for success. His adventures have taken him to a long list of tournament wins, six IGFA world records, and more than 500 tagged gamefish. In late June this year, Trish and I joined our friend, Capt Barry Bailey, aboard his 15m sailing catamaran Mia in Tahiti. Our plan was to head north and troll the coral atoll drop-offs under sail.Although Game fishing from a sailing boat is quite a challenge, we were inspired by the amazing successes enjoyed by Morten Ruud aboard his catamaran sailboat Offshore Hunter. While Morten’s cat has been remarkably customised specifically for game fishing, Barry has also enjoyed regular success even with his traditional sailing cat. In a…

three kings turns on massive kingfish

The remote Three Kings Islands lie more than 50 nautical miles north of New Zealand’s North Cape. This is a dream destination for gamefishermen around the world as these islands are renowned for their prolific quantities of huge yellowtail kingfish, striped marlin, swordfish, plus enormous hapuka and bass groper. However, these rugged islands provide little shelter, and they’re a long way from the nearest facilities.During the summer season, much of the effort is devoted to billfish and tuna species, but with the receding water temperatures of late autumn, attention is switched to the mighty yellowtail kingfish. This powerful predator can be found from the surface to depths well over 200m. Large yellowtail kingfish can be found at the Three Kings all year, but the quantity and size of fish usually…
