Our feature here on roadside assistance packages proved timely for us this month. It seems remarkable, but it's been a year since the last time we set off for Lake Gairdner in South Australia from our home base in Merimbula, NSW, to attend Speedweek. Last year the country was closing down in the initial stages of COVID, and by the time we got to the lake, the racing had been cancelled. Our Premier membership with NRMA, the NSW motoring association, gave us reciprocal rights with the local RAA. But, because it was Saturday, all the garages had closed for…

yarram wins gold

The small Gippsland town of Yarram has won the highly coveted Best Street Art Trail at the 2020 Australian Street Art Awards held on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Yarram recently adopted the moniker of ‘Heesco Town’ in honour of the Melbourne-based street and silo artist, whose work helped Yarram win the Gold Award. Most of the 17 outdoor murals were completed during the initial COVID lockdown in March 2020, and Yarram is the only town in Australia to have so many works by one artist. In their comments, the judges said, “We love that Yarram pulled up its socks, strapped on its thinking cap and turned to street art as a secret weapon during this period. Along the way they created hope, joy, a blaze of colour and an Australian first.” “It is highly…

Figures recently released by the Electric Vehicle Council show Australian sales of electrics cars have stagnated while those of the rest of the world have grown. In 2020, a 2.7 per cent increase in Australia saw 6900 cars sold, to now account for 0.7 per cent of total Australian car sales. In comparison, the EU saw electric cars increase their market share to 10.2 per cent in the same time, UK figures rose to 10.7 per cent, California’s market share grew to 8.1 per cent, and Norway’s increased to 75 per cent.
