But as our cover powerhouse Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore found – along with photographer Michelle Grace Hunder – this certainly wasn’t the case when they decided to document an under-represented group in the music industry: women. “My intention was not to ostracise men, but to simply celebrate women. It’s a chance to listen and, I hope, a grand gesture in the direction of change. There’s room for the conversation to get louder,” says Claudia. While we’ve come a long way in forging a path of equality,…

Can you tell us about your project? My Happy Heart is a whimsical TV series that encourages children to take a small moment each day to reflect and check in on how they are feeling. Combining photography and illustration, the animated series explores the stories of diverse characters on a quest to nurture their happy heart. What was the inspiration behind it? We’re both inspired by the creativity of children and motivated to create stories that our kids can embrace, by encouraging them to think about their feelings and how to care for themselves. What themes does the show explore? We’re passionate about children learning the benefits and importance of exercise, gratitude, connecting to nature, spending time with loved ones, meditation, cultivating a passion and, most importantly, finding out what makes their heart happy! So…

social enterprise spotlight: bilum & bilas

Tell us about your brand… Bilum & Bilas is a social enterprise based in Papua New Guinea. We create contemporary accessories handcrafted by female artisans using traditional weaving techniques. How do you support your artisans? Papua New Guinean female artisans create amazing products, but market access is extremely limited. Most women remain in poverty as they wait in local markets for sales, surviving hand-to-mouth on unstable incomes. We support our artisans by directly employing them – providing a guaranteed income and a safe and secure work environment. Our team also receive training in fashion trends and international quality standards, which supports them to produce more competitive designs and build a sustainable business. What kinds of products do you create? Our pieces are intricate representations of bilum weaving techniques and other traditional adornments, such as grass skirts,…
