editor’s letter

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Queensland has such a unique character and lifestyle – especially when it comes to our homes! That’s why we always keep the focus firmly on our motto ‘Our State, Our Style’ – and, as we see more and more through social channels like Instagram (follow and share with us @queenslandhomes), it’s a style that is going global! In a major coup for Brisbane, we welcome The Australian International Furniture and Design Fair in July, including FURNITEX & design, a combined trade and public ‘Fashion Show for Furniture’. I KNEW I WANTED TO BE A DESIGNER WHEN... I remember constantly rearranging my room when I was little, draping fabric and styling shelves, so I suppose it’s always been a natural part of my life. I spent the first few years out of school working in construction, building industrial, concrete tilt-panel warehouses which developed my strange love for concrete and steel. After that there was a series of jobs including being on Home and Away, event styling and PR – but I have always had a love of design, particularly furniture. Al comes from a mechanical and fabrication background, crazy things like custom motorbike builds and film and television creations. When we couldn’t find a coffee table, we combined our skills and aesthetics and, voila, fifteenthirtyeight was immaculately conceived. I LOVE…
