editor's letter

After the previous year’s ups and downs, trials and tribulations around the world, it’s with welcome relief that we usher in this new year and this, our first issue for 2017. As Autumn approaches and the old makes way for the new, it’s a sense of renewal that hopefully carries through the rest of 2017. And if the interior trends we’ve covered this issue are anything to go by, it’s a year that calls us to embrace our self-expression, and I say a big yes to that! I’m loving seeing saturated colour and eclectic pattern-play return to fashion and interiors, a sign that it’s time to have a bit of fun again and indulge ourselves. And, once again, I’m completely in love with our front cover home! Located in one of my…

The team at John Croft Design will tailor each project to suit your personality, lifestyle and budget, and guide you through the transformation process to achieve your desired results. Their expertise takes the stress away from you, whether it be selecting, supplying and installing furniture and accessories for your home, or specifying all building finishes, as well as drafting building plans as required. “A lot of the time residential work consists of redecorating or redesigning existing rooms using possessions that the client already owns. Our approach is always very personal,” says John. “The feedback from clients time and time again is virtually the same, they no longer want to try and decorate themselves, making costly mistakes they then have to live with. What they want is to eliminate hassle, get help and advice,…

"Colour is very important, and I'm always very attentive to textures and shades" – Interior Designer, Veronica Sudnikova Welcome to Moscow, a city filled with architectural testaments to luxury, with charming residential pre-revolutionary buildings that stand in contrast to the austere block buildings and Stalin-era apartments of the 20th century. With grand facades and antique entrances that give you a taste of Moscow’s unique character and history, it’s easy to imagine how these homes can inspire and ignite creative flare. It was like that for Veronica Sudnikova, an interior designer based in Russia who designed this luxurious apartment, lovingly referred to as Birds. Inspired by a photograph of a flock of birds, Veronica created a unique space that cleverly represents their natural surroundings. “Colour is very important, and I’m always very attentive to…

MY BACKGROUND: I spent several years working for fashion and surf brands before transitioning into marketing and advertising, which led me to move to New York. That's where I discovered (and fell in love with) the art of vintage Polaroid photography. I spent two years learning and shooting, collecting equipment and really just getting my technique down pat before bringing it back home with me to Australia. I LOVE THE WORK THAT I DO BECAUSE… I get the most enjoyment out of the many inspiring young artists that I get to meet – having them come up to me and say how much they respect my work just blows me away, everytime, and that really inspires me to keep going. And I just love keeping an old analogue format alive, with technology taking…
