knits to treasure

Be inspired by our beautiful stitch patterns! Colourwork plays a starring role in this issue, including Eline Oftedal’s Nordic motifs and Kaffe Fassett’s graphic intarsia. Elegant cables decorate garments from Emma Vining and Pat Menchini, while we have lovely lace from Charlotte Walford. Our design showcase special yarns including Daughter of a Shepherd, John Arbon, Lottieknits and The Uncommon Thread. HAPPY KNITTING! from The Knitter team Our featured designers Charlotte Walford Charlotte is a designer and the dyer behind the Lottieknits brand. She loves to design lace shawls to show off her luxury hand-dyed yarns. Charlotte’s first project for The Knitter is an elegant crescent shawl which blends geometric lace with a floral edging, on page 53. Emma Vining Emma is known for her exquisite stitch patterns and fabric textures, many of which have been influenced by artefacts…

CREATIVE CURLS Filled with wonderfully curving shapes that drape around your shoulders beautifully, the new book from Hunter Hammersen is a delight! Curls 3 is the latest in her series of pattern collections offering asymmetric ‘curls’ that can be made small and worn as cowls, or made longer to create scarves or shawls. The focus is on texture, from the elegantly simple eyelet stripes of ‘Apatite’, to the sculptural lace of ‘Merlinite’ and ‘Zincite’. A smart chevron pattern worked in twisted stitches decorates the ‘Howlite’ design, while ‘Charoite’ features a cable pattern worked in a gradient yarn for a sophisticated look. The patterns are designed to be knitted at any gauge, in any yarn, and are all charted. £19.99 from www.searchpress.com; also available to download for £22 from Ravelry at http://bit.ly/curls3book To dye for!…

on my needles

I often work from home, and I’ve been finding it a bit chilly lately - so I fancied making myself a poncho for when the house feels particularly cold. I wanted a quick-knit project, and came across ‘Poncho Hugo’ by Gosia Grajdek on Ravelry. It uses an aran-weight yarn, and is knitted top-down, with simple cables along the raglan increases. I’m knitting mine in DROPS Nepal wool, in a heathered forest green. I’m now thinking I might add some colourwork around the bottom, using motifs taken from my treasured copy of Mittens of Latvia by Maruta Grasmane. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hugo-3…
