on watch

You’ll see momentum starting to gather for show season from this issue. The first PR is flowing, and exhibitor applications are well open for our two premier shows, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and Sydney International Boat Show. So far, the market seems optimistic that both will be successful, though there are clouds on the horizon. Already booked are new-to-Australia brands Sirena and Pardo for release at each respectively and with Riv celebrating their 40th this year, no doubt they will bring a flotilla of updates and new models, but what of the crises we have faced at home and afar? There is talk of boats being delayed out of China which could mean they miss the shows and there is a growing disruption to the supply chains of…

seadogs of yore

So often when we talk about explorers ‘discovering’ a place, what we really mean is they were the first from their own culture to reach it. All the famous European explorers ‘discovered’ lands that had already been occupied for thousands of years. Not so the Polynesian and pre-Polynesian sailors who braved the Pacific to find some of the last places on Earth not touched by human hands. Roughly 3400 years ago, sailors from south-east Asia crossed hundreds of miles of ocean to build new lives in new lands. For about 2000 years, Western Polynesia was the farthest they could reach, thanks to the wind at their backs. Near Samoa the winds reverse, and they could go no further. Archaeological evidence tells us that 1200–1400 years ago, a revolution in navigation methods and new…

A larger, enhanced layout and additions to the 2020 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) program have attracted a strong response from world-renowned exhibitors, all keen to be involved. Buyers and sellers on the website will also have the opportunity to benefit from the wide range of marine services offered by d’Albora.…

eyachts brings pardo down under

In just over two years, Italian brand Cantiere del Pardo have become a leader in the walkaround dayboat sector, and are now on their way to Australia. As dayboats have become more popular with each passing year — Eyachts have already imported more than 100 into Australia and New Zealand — it made sense for Eyachts, an Australian and New Zealand importer of international powerboats, to start working with Pardo. “To partner with such passionate owners at Cantiere del Pardo is so refreshing and exciting,” said Peter Hrones, Eyachts managing director. “Understanding our extreme weather and waterways in Australia and NZ, not every boat is suitable for our market. It is to Pardo Yachts’ detail and construction methods that we now look for in our next generation day boats for our new…
