east of eden

AUSTRALIA’S GREATEST BOATS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. This issue we preview this year’s host destination Eden-NSW before next issue letting you know who has taken up the challenge. For those keeping a close eye on the ratings for the last year, you will notice a strong American influence in the ’glass category particularly centre consoles. Considering we are judging the best fishing boats available in Australia, the team and me are happy to see the likes of Robalo and Scout line up against some local ’glass. Over in team-tin the Kiwis are again leading the charge, but time will tell who can get their boats together, get the week off and make the long drive to Eden in time for judging. elandra heads to the usa

Elandra Yachts has its sights set on the American market, with the first Elandra 53 due for delivery to the USA in late 2016. Co-founder and director Luke Durman said the strength of the US dollar against the Aussie dollar placed Elandra’s premium offering as excellent value for money. “The Elandra product will be very competitively priced against its competitors in the US market,” he said. “As for dealers, we will look to have factory direct representation. “That may involve working with a few select US dealers.” The US has a proven appetite for Australian-built, long-range cruising motoryachts, said Durman. “Americans engage in similar cruising on the east coast and up north. They’re after long-range fuel efficient, seaworthy, soft riding boats. “Now, with the softer Aussie dollar, Elandra offers an extremely attractive value package.” The US market…

evolution of ocean alexander

The first motoryacht in Ocean Alexander’s new Evolution Series will feature Volvo IPS pod-drives and is already in-build at the company’s Florida, USA factory. The 70E is a new design for Ocean Alexander Australia and New Zealand, penned by renowned naval architect Evan K. Marshall, who previously worked on OA’s megayacht range. Richard Allender, director of US operations, said the 70E was an example of the evolution within the Ocean Alexander product line. “It’s an evolution in our design, in the engineering, how it’s built, as well as where it’s being built,” Allender said. “We looked at the entire industry and decided there was a need to build a product uniquely suited for a specific market and to position it so that we’re able to meet rapid supply demands in yachts of this size…

furuno expands investment in enl

Furuno Electric Co. Ltd of Japan has bought a larger slice of New Zealand’s ENL electronics company, confirming a 29.5 per cent share, up from an initial 10 per cent investment. The move is further evidence of Furuno’s confidence in ENL’s groundbreaking technology, particularly WASSP – the multibeam sonar system that produces 3D topographic imagery of the seafloor and associated fish detection. The partnership will see ENL continue to work closely with the Furuno product planning division on specialist projects. Furuno managing director Muneyuki Koike has high expectations from this investment and collaborative approach. “ENL’s multibeam technology will be an essential element in our product portfolio and we will leverage the technology for all kinds of maritime customers from professional fishermen to recreational boaters,” he said. Since its commercial introduction in 2006, WASSP…

Naming Reel Torque Yachts as a new Riviera and Belize dealer will also provide additional support, assistance and social opportunities to the growing number of Riviera and Belize owners who keep their boats in the region. “Olivia Branson has an intimate knowledge of the Riviera yachts, having been a Riviera owner herself for 17 years,” Moxey said. “She also knows the territory intimately, having chalked up over 20,000nm cruising and exploring the waters of South East Asia aboard luxurious,…
