full to the gunwales

IT WAS A BIG EFFORT, we even had to order more paper, but we managed to fit in 25 of the best fishing boat reviews our team has written recently in our specialty annual magazine Fishing Boats 2017. Last year’s 20 boats was a record number at the time, up on years previous. But this year there’s also a marked step up in size, with two battle-ready behemoths in the Hatteras 45 Express and Caribbean 49. These two stand out to me as they represent the pinnacle of fishing in our fair waters. Yes they cost an arm, a leg and a lot more but they are something to aspire to. The stories offer a glimpse into the lives of their owners, not something you usually get in a test but…

viking yachts are game

Game & Leisure Boats has been chosen as the regional dealer for Viking Yachts, and its range of legendary gamefishing boats from 37 to 92 feet. At the same time, Game & Leisure Boats announced its first Viking sale – a Viking 37 Billfish will arrive in PNG in mid-2017. The new Viking 37 is designed to emulate the historic Merritt and Rybovich day-boats, while raising the bar of these classic vessels with modern styling and more durable materials, offering better performance, easier maintenance and attractive overnight accommodation. An integral part of the Viking line-up, the 37 Billfish is a bluewater-ready tournament contender equally at home fishing for dollies off the Gold Coast, marlin in PNG, or big pelagics anywhere in the South Pacific. “Viking Yachts is renowned for building some of the best…

suzuki big blocks

The Haines Group, distributors of Suzuki Marine outboards, has announced a pair of new high-performance four-cylinder, four-stroke outboards – the DF150AP and DF175AP. Featuring the refinements and innovations seen in the DF200AP, the 150 and 175 versions boast the same lightweight, compact design with the largest displacement in their respective classes (2867cc). crushing it

Bar Crusher’s Gen 2 hull has now reached almost every model in the line-up. Combining a wider negative chine running forward, optimised wider chine aft and the distinctive Delta Flare V-shaped planing plank, the result is greater hydrodynamic lift for more efficient planing and improved fuel economy, a higher bow attitude and better spray deflection for a drier ride. Extensive testing showed the 490C, 535C, 575C and 615C received significant performance benefits from the Gen 2 hull. Among a host of recent innovations is Bar Crusher’s exclusive Game Lock coaming (575C, 615C and 670C). The newly designed gunwale/sidedeck incorporates a 45-degree angle on the inner edge, which – along with the secure toe-holds found in all Bar Crushers – allows you to lock yourself into an extremely comfortable and secure position. Slightly…
