bon voyage

After years of enjoyment it’s always hard to hand over a beloved boat. But that’s what we’re doing now with this magazine – at least in this case we know it’s passing to good hands. I’ve been involved with Trade-a-Boat for 12 years now, and watching the evolution of the marine industry has been very exciting. Australians are passionate about their boating and I’ve met many amazing boat owners from all over the country. We’ve loved hearing their stories about how this magazine helped them find their first, second, third, and even – for some lucky owners – their sixth, seventh and eighth boats! Trade-a-Boat has been a huge influence to so many people and it will remain so with its new publisher, Adventure Group Holdings. We’re handing over the throttle, wheel…

bia & biav get closer

The Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) and the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) have signed an agreement aimed at developing closer national cooperation to promote the boating industry. The BIA operates in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory, and president Alan Blake has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with his counterpart at the BIAV, president Mark Crockford. The agreement will ensure the two cooperate on national and international policy issues, and on projects and services for members, such as national statistics, increasing participation in boating, education and accreditation, Marine Card and access management systems, and the timing of events and boat shows. They have agreed to review their activities and use complementary programs to benefit members and the industry wherever possible. “The Marine Card concept is being reviewed by…

riviera dealer awards

Announcing the R Marine Dealer of the Year awards, Riviera chairman Rodney Longhurst said it had been hard to narrow the field. “Every one of our R Marine Dealerships has performed magnificently over the past year but in the end there has to be a winner,” he said. R Marine Sydney was that winner. “The team at R Marine Sydney demonstrated excellence in every aspect of their activities, from owner service to support and event management – all revolving around the owner experience,” he said. R Marine Sydney Dealer Principal Michael Joyce accepted the award on behalf of his team. “We are proud to be a part of the incredible R Marine network and I am personally very proud of the team,” Joyce said. “We keep raising the bar in our commitment to owners…

new arvor 555 sportsfish

Arvor’s 555 is the new entry-level model in its Sportsfish range. Designed for North Sea fishermen, the 555 Sportsfish is intended to deliver affordable boating without compromise, taking a crew of five and adopting many features from her bigger sisters in the range. Unusually for a full-cabin vessel of this size – 5.3m length overall, 2.4m beam – it weighs less than two tonnes on a trailer, so you can hook it to the family sedan and head off. The pilothouse model offers a walk-around lockable cabin and a genuine self-draining deck with high sides and good rod storage. Designed to maintain usable space, the larger-than-average cockpit and substantial forward fishing platform provide plenty of room to move while allowing maximum safety for offshore voyages. To maximise the boat’s angling potential, Arvor offers…

It’s available in three or four-cabin layouts, to suit personal cruising or commercial charter. Six can sit at the cockpit dining table while another half-dozen can enjoy panoramic views from the flybridge table. Cockpit and flybridge can be fitted with biminis for weather protection. The galley features a 150L drawer fridge, double sink and three-burner hob, while generous windows bathe the hulls in natural light.
