time to go

GUY ALLEN YOURS TRULY writing about selling vehicles may turn out to be one of the great hypocritical acts in publishing, but let’s give it a go, since that’s more or less what this issue’s cover is about.Okay, let’s start with the simple stuff – have you ever sold a collectible car that you actually liked? There are lots of reasons for trying to do it, but only one or two of them actually work, in my experience. For a start, logic has nothing to do with any of this process – let’s establish that right from the start. It’s something you use to justify whatever ludicrous decision you just made, but nothing to do with the actual decision itself. For example, you’ve decided to sell your highly collectible E-type,…

going going gosford gone

AN ONGOING dispute with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has led Gosford Classic Cars to shut its doors, less than three years after opening, resulting in the loss of 40 jobs. The $70 million collection is being put up for auction and the premises are to be sold.Promoted as the Central Coast’s unique automotive dealership specialising in rare cars, the collection of 150 vehicles, will go under the hammer in a predominantly no-reserve auction at the Gosford premises on April 6 and 7.According to a Gosford Classic Cars statement it consulted leading law firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers and received indications from the ATO that the entity and structure met taxation rules. However the dealership has been caught up in protracted discussions as to whether it's entitled to the same exemptions…

bentley centenary celebrations

FOUNDED IN a London mews by WO Bentley, and celebrating its centenary on July 10, 2019, Bentley Motors debuted the ultimate version of the all-new Continental GT at the recent Geneva Motorshow. The 333km/h Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner, of which just 100 will be made – celebrating each of Bentley’s years – is inspired by Bentley’s famous motorsport past with a number of distinctive features added to the standard W-12 two-door Grand Touring coupe. The original Number 9 was the supercharged Bentley ‘Blower’ raced by Sir Henry Ralph Stanley ‘Tim’ Birkin at the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hours. It is arguably one of the most famous race cars of all time.Birkin commissioned the production of a series of supercharged 4.5-litre Bentleys, with the result that the striking green…

seen something?

EL ON WHEELS Out for a stroll one evening I spotted this wedding car. Upon closer inspection I realised it was more than a burgundy Falcon with wedding ribbons. It was an EL GT. I can't remember the last time I saw one but this was a gem. COLIN HIGGINS - FRANKSTON, VIC HERALD Seeing this blue Triumph Herald reminded me of the Top Gear TV show when James May attepted to turn one into a yacht. As you'd expect it didn't go well. But this blue one was in pristine order and must have been a head turner in its day. ACOOCHI KOO- METUNG , VIC HATS OFF This beautiful old Citroen van is used as a pop up store selling equally beautiful…

That's when Unique Cars magazine is running its first track cruise at Sydney Motorsport Park and we'd like you to be there with your favourite toy.To be eligible for the cruise and or the show, the car needs to be 30 or more years old. That's it, that's the only qualifier. It can be any marque from any country. And it doesn't matter whether it's an exotic, a muscle car or something a little more humble. In fact, if you have the old family sedan sitting around, we'd love to see it out there. There are still a few details to nail down and we'll let you know how it's looking as we get closer. For the…

grab it while you can

IN CASE YOU missed it, recently we put together a book of some of our favourite muscle cars, called Aussie Muscle Car Legends. Inside we bolted together some of our best material on a selection of the cars that ‘made’ the greatest era in Australian motoring, and it’s been turned into a hardbound coffee table book. There’s a wealth of info plus some truly stunning photography. Stocks are getting low, so you might want to jump in. We’re pretty sure any car nut would be pleased to have it and it costs $40.
