what makes me happy !

“A walk through the woods brings me joy!” Money was tight one year, so when my husband asked what I wanted for Christmas, I asked him to make a trail for me in the woods behind our home. While hiking, we’d stumbled upon a beautiful old-growth tree stump surround by blackberry brambles. For six weeks, my husband bushwhacked a more direct trail to the stump. That spring, he named the path “Lindi’s Lane,” and it’s now my go-to spot whenever I need my spirits lifted! You deserve a little lift! “Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” Unknown Do you have a happy moment to share? I told her yes, but she wasn’t convinced and asked me again if it was safe. When I reassured her it was okay, she followed up with, “So you’re sure I won’t grow flowers in my tummy, right, Mommy?”…

it happened this week!

• Michael Phelps swam into history at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when he tied Mark Spitz’s record by winning his seventh gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly by the narrowest of victories—just one-hundredth of a second! Phelps would break the tie the following week by capturing his eighth gold medal at those games. (In all he’s won 18 Olympic gold medals and four additional medals—more than any other athlete.) • A crowd gathered in Lafayette, Indiana, in 1859, to watch the first U.S. airmail take off—in a balloon! Destination: New York City. Unfortunately, bad winds forced the balloon to land five hours and just 30 miles later, leaving the 123 letters to travel the rest of the way by train! • The quintessential “Cosmo Girl,” Helen Gurley Brown, died in 2012…
