It’s very easy to get overwhelmed at this time of the year. For me it’s because we’re working like crazy trying to hit deadlines before the Christmas break. But perhaps you’re putting pressure on yourself to create a memorable Christmas, or find the perfect gift for friends or family. Maybe you’re juggling too many social engagements or facing Christmas alone. Whatever is causing you stress it’s important to understand the effect it can have on your health and it’s good to have a range of solutions at your fingertips that you know work for you. I find a daily yoga practice (when I’m not being interrupted by the cat!) makes a big difference to my mood. I have a few other ‘go-to’ solutions (see below) but if you need some more inspiration…

star letter

My kitchen cupboard surprises! Today I went back in time… to the back of the kitchen cupboard! I’m ashamed to say that I found several jars covered in dust (which I think were once herbs!), a tin of fruit cocktail with a sell-by date of 2011, tubs of arrowroot to be used by 2016 and a tub of baking powder that was three years out of date. Laughing, I shared my experience with friends and learnt that one had recently found a tin of peaches in her cupboard dated 2003 and another who said when they Our star letter will receive a stunning The Elegant Rose and Freesia bouquet with chocolates from our friends at Flying Flowers. Wild presents ✒ Several years ago my two daughters and I agreed, regarding Christmas presents, there was nothing we needed. Each year since then I receive a large box of bird food from one daughter which gives me hours of pleasure watching my feathered friends, and my eldest daughter pays a subscription on my behalf to a local donkey sanctuary. I get a newsletter and information about the animals which is lovely. The result is no worrying about what to buy for Christmas! Barbara Pine, Devon Final word! ✒ I had to ‘grab’ the chance to ‘basically and absolutely’ agree with all the recent letters about over-used and irritating words used on television. My other pet hates, even from older, experienced broadcasters are ‘… a.m. in the morning’ – a.m. is the morning and when…

We are wearing floral knee-length dresses and pointed heels – which were in fashion back then. We all lived in a little village called Northop Hall in Flintshire and had travelled to Blackpool for a holiday. Rita Jones, Flintshire 1970: This photo was taken on a holiday night out in Tossa de Mar, Spain. My friend and I were wearing baby doll outfits of the time. I’m on the right in the light-coloured outfit, wearing long strappy sandals which I…
