welcome...

In our chat with cover star Katie Piper (page 12) she says that she hopes the sense of gratitude we all feel for key workers will remain long after this crisis is over and I couldn’t agree more. A few weeks ago we asked you to tell us about who among your friends and family are busy helping out and making a difference. Turn to page 10 to read just a few of them. I find gratitude a really important tool for my own mental health. If I’m ever feeling overwhelmed I make a point of taking a few minutes each day to think of three things I’m grateful for. It may feel hard to begin with but once you start, it can be difficult to limit yourself to three. Right now…

over the rainbow

As part of FitMind50 we’re setting you a series of just-for-fun mini challenges. For this month, we’re asking readers to send us a rainbow – they are such a universal symbol of hope and solidarity at the moment, we’d love to see yours. Let your creativity run riot – draw, paint, collage or even knit us something rainbow-inspired – just make it as colourful and cheerful as possible. To enter... ...simply send us your rainbow by email to: yours@bauermedia. co.uk marked ‘FM50 Rainbows’ or post to the usual Yours address. The best entries will be featured in a future issue of Yours magazine.…

the view from yours

BREAKFAST IS BACK ON While once breakfast for many was a ‘grab and go’ affair, it seems the lockdown has encouraged more of us to enjoy a proper breakfast at home, new research has found. And sales of breakfast-related items including egg cups, teapots and coffee grinders have also soared. JIGSAW GIANT! With jigsaw puzzles more popular than ever, Kodak has released the ultimate puzzle challenge. Called the World’s Largest Puzzle it is made up of 51,300 pieces and features 27 famous world landmarks including India’s Taj Mahal and London’s Tower Bridge. But you’ll need a big room to fit it! When complete it measures 28ft by 6ft (roughly the size of an average British lounge). And it costs a whopping £400! According to a new survey 54% of younger Brits feel a deeper…

turtley great!

With a family history dating back more than 200 million years it’s fitting that these fascinating creatures have their very own World Turtle Day on May 23. The special event was established by American Tortoise Rescue 30 years ago to recognise the need to protect turtles and their disappearing habitats. The good news is that since the Coronavirus lockdowns, beaches around the world have seen turtles nesting in numbers not seen for decades. The rise is being attributed to less disturbance from people and a reduction in plastic pollution. Researchers are now hoping this positive effect will continue in order to give marine life such as turtles a more secure future. PICS: GETTY IMAGES, SHUTTERSTOCK EDITORIAL…

star letter

Thank you amazing readers ✒ My little charity Ruddi’s Retreat, featured recently in Yours, has really felt the brunt of the Covid-19 pandemic. We help families with young children suffering from the effects and after-effects of cancer treatment, life-limiting illnesses or bereavement, to enjoy a family holiday together. Our tea room has had to close, my committee has disappeared and the funding has dried up overnight. But after the Yours story appeared we received wonderful letters and support from readers who sent more £300. This is a huge amount to us and will send a family away on a much-needed holiday. I know that times are really hard currently so for people to show such kindness is overwhelming. Some have sent lovely letters telling me about their struggles but with no…

We love the NHS ✒ I thought your readers might like to see what I’ve knitted to show our appreciation for our great NHS. They’re doing so well to keep us all safe, as are the shopkeepers, drivers, bin men and carers. Sheila Chapman, Peterborough Puzzle therapy ✒ Thank you for the recent puzzles pull-out (issue 347/April 7). What a good variety of puzzles to keep us occupied in self-isolation and stop us going completely bananas! Doreen Wyatt, by email Thank you Diane ✒ I really enjoyed the recent Life Lessons with Diane Keen to mark her guest appearance in the 20th anniversary episode of Doctors. It was lovely to see her character, Julia Parsons, back on the screen. I’m just hoping we don’t have to wait for another anniversary milestone to see her again! Kate Gairmusso, Cheshire Inspiring…
