new contaminations

The keyword is: luxury. In ateliers where absolutely exquisite fabrics are cut, where the most extraordinary materials are assembled, from rhinestones to feathers, where embroideries with thousands of beads and sequins are made with infinite skill and love, is where the enchantment takes place. High fashion dresses are exclusive pieces that are also adapted to the needs of the client. Things here are very far from prêt-à-porter collections that flirt with “here and now” trends for everyday clothing. Creators instead can digress from dream projects and fashion dresses with incredible craftsmanship, without limits in budgets. And it is because of this absolute freedom that Haute Couture collections influence prêt-a-porter, subtly but inevitably and, vice versa, in a continuous interaction. A contamination with very interesting aspects. A T-shirt can appear under…

so precious, so chopard

Designed by Caroline Scheufele, creative director for Chopard, a series of jewels that complete the “Precious Chopard” collection. Luxury jewelry, where craftsmanship flirts with the concept of a Haute Couture atelier. Beautiful stones in various carats, and artistry that is its true foundation. Research turns towards lightness and jewels are crafted by the skilled hands of artisans as if they were lace. A technical virtuosity that bears witness to the artistic modernity of Chopard. The masterpiece among these creations, which illustrate their splendor - the central theme of the line - is a majestic watch, dictated by the DNA of the Genevan maison. Disegnati da Caroline Scheufele, direttore artistico della Maison, ecco una serie di gioielli che vanno a completare la collezione Precious Chopard. Si tratta di alta gioielleria, dove l’abilità…

azzedine alaïa, the designer who (truly) loved women

Alaïa’s clients were prominent women, like Greta Garbo. Top models were his friends, first and foremost Naomi. Then there was Sofia Coppola and Michelle Obama. All who needed pampering, and who better than Azzedine for this? Having studied sculpture, he loved women’s bodies, a master in glorifying their virtues with purely sartorial artifices. He knew how to cinch, where cinching was needed. His creations in the ‘80s included those for the dancers at the Crazy Horse in Paris (along with several other colleagues, Jean Charles de Castelbajac and the indomitable Karl Lagerfeld). He learned the secrets of feminine sinuosity, which he adored. More a tailor than a designer, someone we all would have liked as a friend. He was among the first, if not the first, to use stretch fabric,…

rigor and grace

Yumi Katsura is not a brand. Since 1964, she has been the sartorial representation of Japanese know-how, of a culture that is full of contrasts. Millennial, yet, extremely modern. Where intense colors and delicate scents intertwine. The 1970s marked an important moment for Madame Katsura. While visiting one of her stores in Tokyo, Pierre Balmain was fascinated by her way of designing wedding dresses. Having trained at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Yumi Katsura revealed a very unique style in the production of her creations. A perfect mix of oriental and western designs and techniques that have made her one of the most esteemed designers in the international high fashion scene. The day after her spring-summer haute couture fashion show, Yumi Katsura invited us to her…
