This Christmas and New Year break, I stayed in Mumbai. This is not usual practice; the end of the year is when I love to travel. And though I have sometimes been in party places like Thailand and Las Vegas, I prefer being in the middle of nowhere—on safari in Tanzania or holed up in a villa in Ubud, somewhere you barely register that it’s 31 December. I always return rejuvenated, my mind calm and prepared to take on whatever the new year brings, my heart full of gratitude for the year that was.
