welcome to the issue

It’s always exciting at the start of a new season—a time to recharge your wardrobe and refresh your point of view. That’s why we’ve packed this issue with the key looks, pieces, and advice you’ll need to enjoy the very best in fashion and beauty for spring. It all starts with the color of the moment: From Aquarian jewels (page 256) to designer denim in indigo washes (page 262) and sublime gowns in watery tones (page 278), blue is the season’s coolest—and hottest—hue. Sharp tailoring and dramatic silhouettes (page 234) and artful accessories (page 294) also take center stage, while our roundups of the latest and greatest hits in hair and makeup (page 204) and military- and safari-inspired must-haves (page 117) will help you get dressed and ready for action.…

editor’s letter

HARPER’S BAZAAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN a magazine where the voices, ideas, and passions of a diverse range of women can shine. As we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, we’re proud to present a spring fashion issue that speaks to this legacy and features a roster of female powerhouses, starting with our cover star, Kylie Jenner. At 22, the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner dynasty has built a billion-dollar cosmetics brand—and channels Marie Antoinette as she shares what it was like growing up in the spotlight, her relationship with her sisters, and the secret to her family’s success. Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish is another woman who has charted her own course. She reveals how she overcame a difficult childhood to become among the hottest contemporary names in comedy.…

summary of the season

NAME THE TOP 10 iconic style images of the past 50 years: Bianca Jagger in a plunging blazer on her wedding day to Mick—the epitome of modern sex appeal. Jackie O in a patterned head scarf; prim glamour at its most quixotically pragmatic. John Travolta in a three-piece pantsuit (not that Tony Manero would have called it that). Queen Elizabeth in any one of her ice-blue outfits. Meryl Streep en safari in Out of Africa. Kate Moss in a trench. J. Lo in a green chiffon jungle-print Versace scarf that had somehow been worked into a dress.… Well, bull’s-eye because they’re all featured in the spring collections. I can’t remember a season when so many proven favorites felt like fresh, exciting options. If that sounds paradoxical (how can the tried-and-true seem…

a fashionable life

As a scion of one of Asia’s most successful fashion entrepreneurs, you might expect Veronica Chou to be clad in fresh-off-the-runway looks. After all, her father, the Hong Kong mogul Silas Chou, was an investor in Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger, and helped take both businesses public, and she served as president of Iconix China, bringing American labels to the Chinese market. (She’s also involved in the investing and development of the Karl Lagerfeld brand.) Instead Chou is barefoot, wearing leggings made from fermented sugar and a sweatshirt woven from eucalyptus fiber. Both designs are from Everybody & Everyone, her new line specializing in eco-innovative, size-inclusive everyday essentials like a puffer jacket made from 330 recycled plastic bottles and balloon-sleeve tees that are spill- and odor-repellent, reducing the need for…
