welcome

The last 12 months in AV land have seen the first 48in OLED TV; specialist disc labels Arrow Video and Second Sight joining the Ultra HD Blu-ray party; the arrival of two new next-gen games consoles; Disney+; Sky HDR content; Dolby Atmos music; DTS:X Pro; AVRs that actually look stylish; and Jaws on 4K. The home cinema rollercoaster never stops! As for what next year might have in store, I'm not going to dare guess. After all, I predicted this year would witness box office records being smashed by James Bond flick No Time to Die… And anyway, 2020 isn't over yet. While you wait for it to end, check out the…

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X-enabled, with further support for Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced, its lengthy feature list includes balanced XLR pre-outs, wired/wireless networking (including Bluetooth and HEOS), an MM phono stage for vinylistas, and AKM 32-bit DACs across all channels. 'The AV7706 is the bedrock of any system demanding masterful fidelity,' says the brand. Red REL sub is ready to rumble Those looking for a little subwoofer glamour can check out REL's T/9i RED. Priced £1,200, this takes the 10in driver/300W amplifier specification of the standard T/9i model and dresses it in an eye-catching red-gloss finish (inspired by Ferrari); it also gains a triple-chromed top-plate badge with carbon fibre edging, and carbon fibre-sleeved feet. benq smartens up pj line

Taiwanese projector specialist BenQ has launched its new iSeries, comprising three models incorporating Android TV smart technology. The 4K DLP TK850i and W2700i, plus the 1080p DLP TH685i, are all based around Google's Android platform, enabling access to live TV streaming, video-on-demand, Chromecast and app downloads from the Google Play Store. The models – all updates on previous BenQ home cinema/home entertainment beamers – will also feature the brand's proprietary 'child-friendly' FamiLand app, which allows for curated YouTube playlists and parental controls. Access to the Amazon Prime VOD platform is integrated, as is Apple AirPlay, but there's no one-button entry to Netflix; streaming via Chromecast from a web browser, or a third-party media player, is an alternative. The trio is billed as a 'new generation of home entertainment projectors,' and BenQ is keen to…
