RUARK LINLEY TEMPO Such is the array of home-entertainment options you can get these days, it’s a wonder that anyone still bothers with radio. Or at least it was a wonder until we clapped eyes on the Tempo. A collaboration between audio expert Ruark and royal furniture maker Linley, this British-made tuner is a devastating collision of sonic smarts and sartorial flair. With support for DAB, DAB+ and FM radio bands, a Bluetooth receiver and an aux input, there’s a wide variety of listening choices – and with a RotoDial on the top and a clear OLED display at the front, navigating your way around your favourite stations and songs couldn’t be easier. However, as satisfying as the technology is, the Tempo’s biggest selling point is most definitely its looks. Hand-crafted…

editor’s letter

Depending on when you read this, 2019 is either just about to end, or has recently exited the building. It’s very odd to be living in 2020, a year that definitely feels like it’s ‘the future’ (doubly so when you remember that Blade Runner was set in 2019). 2019 was a pretty good year for next-gen tech, all things considered. We had the launch of 5G, we had the arrival of 8K TVs in the home, and we had foldable phones, including the return of the Motorola Razr, giving us both retro and futuristic vibes in one package. It’s due out a few weeks after this issue goes on sale, and you can see what we thought after some early time with it on p10. Our big feature this issue is all…

t3’s mission

Our mission is to bring you the clearest recommendations we can – and that means a great deal of hard work happens before a product even reaches our pages! Because we only feature products the T3 team would happily use ourselves, we end up discarding a significant number of options in each category before settling on a final shortlist to review. We select only the best of the best for our Tested section; the gear we know you’ll want to seriously consider purchasing. And that should mean an end to you having to undertake hours of painstaking research and product comparisons. You won’t see any duff products, but you will come away with clarity on which one is the best in its category or for a specific task: our awards badges (see…

1 MOTOROLA RAZR £1,360 (approx), motorola.co.uk The Motorola Razr is a cutting-edge, foldable phone that’s also a throwback to one of the most iconic handset designs of all time: the original Razr V3 that launched in 2004… it’s the future wrapped in the past. We got a chance to test it, to see whether this synthesis is novel enough to be worth flipping out over. We assumed that foldables would bridge the gap between phones and tablets by unfolding horizontally into a wider display. Motorola has other ideas, however, and its take flips open to reveal an elongated touchscreen that’s just a bit longer than the iPhone 11’s display. So, no, you don’t get much more screen real estate. The novelty lies in what you can do when the phone is closed down to…

we can build you a mobile work setup

THE READER Carl Jepson Carl is looking for a mobile worker setup centred around a powerful but lightweight laptop, complemented by everything he needs to work wherever he is. THE EXPERT Alex Cox Writer Alex never stops working. With a family under his feet, he often needs to escape to the local coffee shop, so knows what gear can help Carl work better on the fly. 1 ACER SWIFT 7 How light does a laptop need to be? At under 900g, the magnesium-alloy Swift 7 manages to crush an incredible amount of power into a thin (under 1cm) and compact shell that will barely make a dent on the overall weight you’re carrying. A 92% screen-to-body ratio means you actually get a generous 14-inch display, with a resolution of 1920x1080. What’s more, it’s got a strong quick-charging…
